Green coffee is the ripe fruit of the coffee tree, a shrub native to Ethiopia and growing on the high plateaux of tropical zones. It is a small evergreen tree that produces fruits called «coffee cherries». These contain two pits containing the green coffee beans, which are picked when ripe, dried and then broken to recover the beans. Green coffee is not roasted, so it retains all its natural goodness. When roasted, coffee loses two essential components, cafestol and kahweol. Parts used:The dried, unroasted coffee bean is used in phytotherapy. As with roasted coffee, excessive doses can cause nervousness and lead to heart problems. Because of its caffeine content, this drink should be limited to 2 cups a day during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Children should not drink green coffee. There are no known side effects if you drink no more than 4 or 5 cups a day.
