The NERE
Parkia biglobosaor néré (nɛrɛ in Bambara), is a species of tree in the Mimosaceae family, or Fabaceae, subfamily Mimosoideae according to the phylogenetic classification, native to the Sahelian and Sudanian zones.
The néré is widely known for its many anti-bleeding, antineuralgic, diuretic, febrifuge, tonic, antiseptic and vermifuge properties. Its fat-rich seeds are used to make a vegetable cheese to season sauces (Soumbara), or as a substitute for coffee", she describes.
