L'akpi is a kernel from a tropical forest fruit tree, the djansang, taxon Ricinodendron heudoletii or Ricinodendron africanum. Ex-Pax stone (Euphorbiaceae). Akpi is used as a flavour enhancer and contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. The almonds of Ricinodendron heudelotii are relatively rich in protein, fat, phosphorus and potassium. A team of doctors has isolated a molecule from its kernel oil that is reputed to induce ovulation in women. Akpi seeds are also renowned for their energising and fortifying properties.
